Name: Debra
(Debbie) Carney
I twirled
with the Strutters from: 1980-1987
When I
twirled I lived in: Danvers
I now live
in: Centennial, CO
After high
school I: Graduated from the University of Vermont
with a BS in Mathematics in 1991. Then I received my PhD in
1998 from the University of Maryland. After that I taught
at the University of Texas and the University of Connecticut
before coming to the University of Denver. I am married (my
husband is also a math professor at DU) with 2 kids (a girl
and a boy) and 1 guinea pig.
Currently I:
Am a lecturer in the Math Department at the
University of Denver.
My most
memorable twirling moment: There are too many good
memories from competitions, parades and trips to remember.
I made a lot of terrific friends. I have fond memories of
riding the bus to parades and singing "The bear went over
the mountain" ad infinitum!
What life
lesson I learned from twirling: I should have
practiced more!
My twirling
teacher was: Elaine
I still take
out my batons once in a while (true/false): True
I twirled at:
Danvers High School
The team I
was on was: I can't remember the names (it has
been 20+ years!) but I do remember the songs we twirled to:
It's Raining Men (by the Weather Girls) and Conga (by Gloria
Estefan).
